We Can Bring a Change

Just the short distance from my campus to Dhaka reveals some ‘below the poverty line’ scenes which can not but hurt ones feelings. If you look out through the window you’ll see people living on dumpsters in a ‘home’ made out of plastic and polythene. They are deprived of ALL basic and fundamental human rights. Let alone “proper” food they can’t even avail themselves pure water. Everyday minimum 3 individuals get on our bus and beg for money. Another common sight in Dhaka is that many people sleeping in footpaths covering themselves in a dirty rag. I bet you’ll cover your nose when passing by these people as they don’t have a place to get “cleaned”.

I am Irtiza and this is my world. No one is going to fix it for me. I have to come forward to do something. Running from the problems never did anyone any good - I can never support getting a good score in the exams and flying to another country JUST for better salary. The world is dying around me and I will die with it if I don’t act soon. War, poverty and pollution are my creations and only I can do something about it.

And it feels great to finally meet some people with the same vision, goal and patriotism. Keeping in mind the poor condition of our country (if not the world) we have decided to create a nonprofit organization which helps the people who are needed to be helped. You can call it our little effort to make this world a little better place to live in.

Remember, the most difficult part of any job is the beginning. Star helping people around you. You have to start from zero and grow from there.

  1. Wow. I am impressed. I too am moved to act. My world is a bigger one, thanks to my status as a Nomad. I too am about to launch a not-for-profit organisation using media and communications to promote peace (non violent solutions). I would love to follow your path, and hope you will follow mine.

Have you seen The Shift Movie? It may inspire you further. http://www.theshiftmovie.com

  2. I may not be the right person to say this but I believe starting numerous NGOs is not a solution. There are already so many out there. Many of them are genuine and doing important work for the society.

Why not identify a few and dedicate yourself towards making them successful in their efforts? What is the point in coming up with new NGOs every other day and becoming a part of the herd.

You choose to stand aside. Become a part of a movement and not an organization. I appreciate your will to do something, but do it productively and by utilizing the existing infrastructure of so many NGOs around you. Use their network, their resources and their power...and you will spend more time making a difference rather than promoting your own NGO...Just my thought, it is up to you to. Best of Luck!

  3. thanks 4 your comments.

    caroline@hope for all the best.

13th@ the condition of most the NGO's around us is not vary favourable. their work plan and aim may difer from us. so IMO it's better to work without them and without politics.

    thanks

  5. Thank you for doing your part to make this world better. You are an inspiration. It's so nice to read something like that, after reading other things on line that are so negative and self-absorbed.

You are right that it is only you that can do something, that is real and profound wisdom.
Good luck with all that you do. You are a beautiful person.

  8. That is great that you choose to do something, rather than many people who would rather ignore or runaway from the problems they face. If more people would act, then the world really would be a better place.
