A Little Comparison

A couple of days back when I was going through Dhaka I took this picture. Have a look at it.

What do you see?

Look at the picture. You can see a “house” on the left- made out of blue and yellow polybags. The house is standing on a roadside dump. And the man (probably the owner of the house/tent) is trying to find something in the waste, probably to sell it.

This is just the picture of one of the many tents that are found on this street...

Dear friends, we have a solid roof over our heads, food to eat, fresh water to drink and internet to blog, surf and socialize. How come we are not still satisfied with our lives?

  1. It's human nature to always want more, BUT when you see things like that, it certainly puts things into perspective.

Everyone needs a wake up call every now and then to show them thinks can always be worse. Thanks for that :)

  2. Greed is a temptation we are all susceptible to. It seems the more we have the more tempted we are to look away from the poverty around us and horde what we have rather than sharing it.

My husband & I have spent decades working against this temptation to become hard hearted. We live a very simple life. It's a low income life and in North America that means we could easily fall right into the category of becoming homeless and poverty stricken if one or the both of us are injured and/or becomes ill. However, it's a conscious and compassionate life that we live, and sharing with others does make one feel grateful that there is something, no matter how small, that we could do for someone else less fortunate than we are.

  5. Thank-you for the wake-up call!

Sometimes I think we all need little reminders of exactly how good we have it!

  7. Sometimes i ask that question too. There are similar scenes here where I live. The thing that really gets to me is when kids, toddlers actually are living the scavenger's life. It's sickening...

  8. Thanks for the reminder to be grateful for what I have; as I get up today with a hot cup of coffee, warm house and clothing to grab out of my closet.

  9. it's ok to want more as long as we have compassion and empathy to those in needs.
